Communication Breakdown

[06 May 2008|01:12pm]

Well, it kinda looks like this community is dead, but I'll try anyway.

Hey there, I'm Crystal, 26, married. Moved here just over a month ago from Oregon, my husband's a Marine stationed at the Presidio for the next year. I'm looking for friends! I know NOBODY here, and since I'm being a housewife, well, I'm starting to get bored out of my mind.

About me: I'm a gamer - pen and paper RPGs, but my husband likes video games as well. Like movies, music. (Except Rap. Ick.) I cross stitch, I bake a damn fine cheesecake. As well as all sorts of other goodies. Have almost a complete library of old World of Darkness roleplaying books. I like to read. We enjoy board games, card games. Scrabble and Apples to Apples are favorites, as is Munchkin (which I own ALL OF, muahahaha!), but unfortunately those last two need more than two players.

I am intelligent and sarcastic. I have an Associate's Degree in Culinary Arts, I just choose to use my skills at home instead of out in the work world. Thinking about hitting up MPC for a class or two, just for fun. I've worked in retail (Kohls, Target) and Food service.

Looking for people, male and female, who would like to be friends! Military/military spouses are a plus, but certainly not a requirement.

Local shows [02 Mar 2006|06:07pm]

Hey, I just moved to Seaside about three weeks ago and I was curious as to what the local scene and shows are like around here. I know there's a lot of hardcore shows but I'm not interested in that. What other kind of shows/bands are held here, and are they actually fun? Also, any ska shows by chance?

Some Q's for you thrift store shoppers [20 Sep 2005|04:07pm]

I'm majoring in Business right now @ MPC, and I am planning on opening my own Resale (buy-sell-trade) thrift store in SC. We're writing business plans right now in one of my classes, and I'd like to get some information from those of you who shop at Santa Cruz thrift stores to even see if there is a demand for what I want to offer to the community. If you can include your name, location, and age, that would be appreciative. I should have the Business plan done by November, so if you would like a copy, please let me know. Thanks!
1. How do you feel about thrift stores in general? Do you feel like there is anything lacking or too much of in the current thrift stores in Santa Cruz? Do you feel like there is a demand for thrift stores?
Part two of this question: Do you feel like there is a demand for an affordable thrift/resale store in santa cruz that has more upscale (IE good condition, few signs of wear) store in santa cruz?
2. How would you feel about a thrift store that had sections for different subcultures, such as gothic and industrial, punk, lolita, ravers, etc? What about sections for "regular" people of our culture, such as preppy? What about sections for men/women, plus sizes, non gender specific, etc?
3. Do you look at window displays often when you shop? If so, are you more apt to visit a store that changes its displays often (once a month or so) versus those that change their displays rarely or never?
4. What do you consider 'affordable' prices for everyone for secondhand clothing? Would you ever resell, trade, or buy clothing from a resale shop such as this-why or why not?
5. How do you feel about local bands and/or artists displaying their works or doing free/cheap shows for promotion at said resale shop? Do you feel like newspaper ads are an adequate form of promotion as well?
6.Anything else?

Northern California Spookie Picnics [13 Sep 2005|11:45pm]

There's a lot of spookie/halloween themed/dia del los muertos themed events going on in Santa Cruz next month, and the norcalspooknics have been on hiatus for the past couple months (mainly because I haven't had the time to manage the group). But I'd love to meet some local spookie folks. Usually we meet up in a restaurant or cemetery (with respect to those who are buried in said cemetery) and network, eat food, all that good stuff. If you are interested, please check us out-in november, we are having our big one year anniversary in San Francisco or the Colma Cemetery in the bay area!

Katrina Benefit Concert In Salinas [12 Sep 2005|12:51am]

As you all may know, New Orleans suffered severe devastation after Hurricane Katrina, some of which is irreparable. However, there is still much that can be done to help with what is left. That is why I we are posting this bulletin. The Salvation Army of Salinas and Royal Air force Productions are putting together a benefit concert to help raise funds for those affected by the hurricane. We will be playing at the Sheriffs Posse Grounds in Salinas Ca September 18,2005. The doors will open at 11 am and the show will end at approximately 6pm. We ask that every one who attends donate a minimum of $5.00 but if you are able to donate more it would be greatly appreciated.

The Salvation Army of Salinas and Royal Air Force Productions goal is to raise money for the victims and make it enjoyable for everyone. They are also in contact with most (if not all) of the high schools and local college in the area and they agreed to help publicize the event to help raise more money. They also have several contacts with the media and it will be publicized in local publications (i.e. newspapers, entertainment guides) and T.V There will be two stages with 10-12 bands playing the event. Some of those include: Airman Basic, InBalance, Third Eclipse, Cali Nation, Astoria, Braskey, and more to be announced. More details can be found on our shows page. www.myspace.com/braskey

Again, being a benefit concert everything is being donated and all who are helping are volunteers. With that, we also ask that you donate some money to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina and at the same time enjoy the music from these local bands. IF YOU WANT TO HELP US PLEASE PASS THIS BULLETIN TO AS MANY FRIENDS AS POSSIBLE WHO ARE IN THE SALINAS/MONTEREY/SANTA CRUZ AREAS SO WE CAN RAISE AS MUCH MONEY AS WE CAN TO HELP THOSE IN NEW ORLEANS. Thank you for helping.
